Job description

I am recruiting for an Assistant Commercial Manager to join a large and highly successful procurement and supply chain team. This is working for a well known national business and in an entry role into a procurement / commerical enviroment


As an Assistant Commercial Manager, you will support the Commercial Manager in pre-contract activities and manage the evaluation and agreement of payments and variations for various projects. Your role will be crucial in ensuring accurate certification of works, contributing to commercial reporting, and assisting with procurement and contract management.
You will appreciate the importance of assurance and governance in managing public money and show a willingness to learn about industry business models and partner priorities across different sectors.

Becoming a trusted expert in pre- and post-commercial administration is essential. An interest in furthering experience and developing functional capability is desirable but not essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in measuring and evaluating the commercial value of payments, ensuring correct certification of works before authorisation.
  • Support the reporting on all commercial aspects of allocated projects.
  • Help prepare contract specifications and pre-tender documentation.
  • Provide assistance with general procurement and commercial management across various contract categories.

Essential Skills:

  • Ability to work to deadlines and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and basic commercial awareness.
  • Basic negotiation skills with the ability to influence decision-making.
  • Proficiency in computer use, including in-house and external software.

Desirable Skills:

  • Effective communication skills, both internally and externally.
  • Membership of a relevant professional organisation or working towards it.
  • Experience with electronic sourcing and/or procurement systems.
