Job description

Role: SQL Database Administrator
Location: North West England (flexible hybrid)
Rate: £475 to £550 per day outside IR35
Contract: 6 to 9 months (possibly 12 months)

Investigo are working with an established consultancy firm with HQ based in the North West of England.
We are looking for someone lead on all Database administration for the business.
This responsibilities will include:

  • Database Maintenance & Monitoring:
    Monitor database performance and optimize queries, indexes, and structures for efficiency. Perform regular database backups and ensure recovery processes are in place.
  • Database Installation & Configuration:
    Install and configure database software, patches, and updates. Set up new database instances and troubleshoot related issues.
  • Security & Compliance:
    Manage user access and permissions, ensuring data security policies and regulatory requirements are met. Monitor for potential security breaches and implement preventive measures.
  • Performance Tuning & Optimization:
    Analyze and improve database performance by identifying slow queries, adjusting configurations, and optimizing storage.
  • Data Recovery & Backup:
    Develop, implement, and test backup and disaster recovery procedures to safeguard data integrity.
  • Collaboration & Support:
    Work with development and operations teams to support application deployments, database changes, and troubleshooting.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
    Maintain clear documentation of database architecture, procedures, and configurations. Provide regular reports on database health, performance, and usage.


The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator or in a similar role.
  • Proficiency with database management systems (e.g., MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Familiarity with database security best practices and user access management.
  • Knowledge of SQL and query optimization techniques.
  • Experience with performance tuning, troubleshooting, and capacity planning.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database) is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
