Life in the Regions

​I had mixed feelings when I was asked to spend some time working from one of Investigo’s regional offices. I’ve always worked in London so didn’t really know what to expect. From visiting Guildford previously, I knew it was a lovely area but I hadn’t really given much thought to what my work life could be outside the overcrowded capital.

It turns out, I have been fully converted to the regional way of life!

Firstly, in Guildford, there is a surplus of great places to eat out or grab an exciting lunch from. The shopping is amazing - my credit card has taken a bit of a battering though. I was also really impressed with the social side of the city. After work drinking holes are ten a penny. In particular, I can recommend The Albany where we went for a cheeky Friday drink in the sun-soaked beer garden to celebrate the end to a good week!

Secondly, I was really impressed with our office – light, spacious and in a great location. The team who specialise in recruiting Accountancy and Finance as well as Human Resources professionals, have a great office atmosphere. Smaller offices often feel more close knit than you sometimes get in larger head office locations.

Thirdly, words cannot describe how much I enjoyed not having to get on public transport every day. I’m sure I’m not the only person who doesn’t enjoy getting on a hot, overcrowded tube or being governed by delays on trains. I have also saved over one hundred pounds on train fares. I’ve really enjoyed having more free time in the evenings and have even managed to get out for a couple of runs in the sunshine before making dinner.

Needless to say that there is definitely life outside London. While London boasts one of the world’s leading financial centres and is the HQ or European base for countless companies, I truly feel that if you work for a strong brand like Investigo that the regional offices offer great earning potential, a fun culture, great social life and you will have plenty of time to enjoy life outside of work too.
